Armed with this experience and knowledge I founded the Sisters’ Cancer Support Group with the help from a dynamic group of young Muslim women. Our initial aim was to help fill the gap in cancer treatment and recovery support for the women in culturally and linguistically diverse community.
The Sisters’ Cancer Support Group was launched on 22nd October 2014 through collaboration and support from Wollongong City Council, Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), Illawarra and Shoalhaven Multicultural Health Service (ISLHD), Multicultural communities Council Illawarra (MCCI) and Cancer Council NSW.
To get this level of support and collaboration clearly shows how the greatness of the need for a cancer support group in our multicultural community. It is also evident that this support group was set up “by the people for the people”
